Meadow Camp

We resolve to shape our destiny together, through concerted effort, undaunted by challenge.

Description

Meadow Camp is a robust village in the Feral Hills region of Shintolin — home to a growing community, and shelter for all who seek.

History

Founded circa 340 SR by Lusis, who had previously learned the ways of hunting, building, trail-blazing, crafting and healing in Feral Ruins, with help and encouragement from its residents along with other longtime Shintolin inhabitants.

Meadow Camp was originally an unincorporated group of huts that served as shelter along a hunting trail in a meadow between Feral Ruins and Sietch Tabr. One day, Lusis carved and planted a totem pole amidst the huts, intending the act only as a personal test of skill. However, as an unexpected consequence of declaring the new settlement, Lusis was unable to return to Feral Ruins.

Turning attention instead to building up Meadow Camp from a waypoint into a destination of its own, Lusis began welcoming new arrivals, offering aid and inviting them to become part of Meadow Camp's future.

Now, in 367 SR, thanks in great part to its camp staff (as well as to the return of mammoths to the land), Meadow Camp finds itself currently one of the most populous and active settlement of Shintolin, while also ascending in favor before the great spirits.

Location

The campground is located somewhat northeast of Feral Ruins, and southwest of Sietch Tabr, in a meadow near the river.

Travelers' Guide

All peaceful travelers are welcome to visit camp and meet our staff.

Would-be vandals or combatants, play nice or move along.

Please try to leave the campground — and the world at large — a little better than you found it.

In particular, we ask you to avoid dumping unwanted items in the river. (The cleaner the river is, the better chance of finding gold.) There is a stockpile for your use near the river, though we encourage you to discard rotten food at the beach to the southeast.

[The meta-logic behind dumping useless items on beaches is that 1) beaches in Shintolin yield no natural resources of their own, and 2) items discarded in container-less areas have a chance of disappearing from the game permanently over time.]

Resources

Join the camp staff to take advantage of the local workshop, masonry, hospital, kiln, bakery, and fine accommodations.

For resources that are not available in Meadow Camp, follow the river trail southwest to Feral Ruins.

You may find an excellent quarry area at the north end of another river trail that starts on the northwest corner of camp.

There are two forests within camp borders, for those who wish to meditate under the shade of majestic trees. Responsible timber harvesting is also welcome (but first check our wood stores; we may already have what you need). Please respect the land by not clear-cutting either forest.

Activities

  • Meadow Camp staff members organize a semi-annual mammoth hunt in Latis Plains. We have cooperated successfully with hunters from other settlements, and we always aim to be fair in distributing spoils.
  • Mammoth tusk sacrifices are a way to celebrate and reflect after a successful mammoth hunt. Lusis conducts the elaborate ritual at Meadow Camp's Hunter's Shrine.
  • Lusis is invested in preserving Feral Ruins' historic buildings, in the absence of most of its former residents, and has on occasion organized repair missions to Feral Ruins — particularly of its hospital, which Lusis and Ujilskifog once rebuilt together from scratch after a nasty storm.
